Spotting after Orgasm

I’m really struggling to find any help on the internet about this so wondering if anyone has experienced any similar.

The past 2 months I’ve been experiencing a small amount of spotting after orgasm. It’s never fresh blood, always brown and only after I wipe the hour after.
I’m in a same sex relationship and we don’t use toys, so it’s after non penetrative sex... everything I’m reading online it’s to do with ‘intercourse’ which isn’t what I’m experiencing.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? I’m really anxious about it. I’m due my smear test in the next month so will be having that done but I’m scaring myself in thinking it’s something sinister. I’m 26, not on any birth control. Looking for some reassurance really :(

Orgasm causes muscle contractions (as I’m sure you’re aware!) so it may simply be a bit of dislodged old blood from the most recent period.
You might also have an ectropion on your cervix - an area of mucosa protruding externally onto the surface of the cervix, which is friable and bleeds easily. Your nurse or doctor will see it when doing your smear. It can be cauterised if it’s being a nuisance.
If it’s anything more concerning, such as a precancerous change in your cervix, that’s causing the bleeding, this will be diagnosed by the smear test.
The other remote possibility is endometrial cancer, inside the uterus itself. More common in obese and older women. If no obvious cause for your bleeding is found, your GP will want to exclude this by referring you to a gynaecology clinic.
The important thing is to mention it when you go for your smear and say you want it investigated. Treatment of these things is very successful if they’re caught early, so don’t worry!
