Having a period but no bleeding?

I'm 47 and have had excruciating but regular periods all my life. Due to this, I'm actually booked in for a hysterectomy in two weeks time.

I was due on my period last Friday. Since then, I've had severe period cramps, sore nipples, been a bit snappy and basically all the usual symptoms involving my period.

However, I'm not bleeding whatsoever. I've never had this before and now as I'm nearly a week late, which isn't like me at all, I googled this and all that came up was that I could be pregnant which is impossible as my husband had a vasectomy 17 years ago.

Has anyone else had this that doesn't relate to pregnancy?

Do a test just to be sure, or menopause?

This is me this week. Regular as clockwork and this week no period but lots of cramping, am now over a week late. Am def not pregnant as im sterilised and have not had a sexual partner since i divorced 4 years ago! Im going with peri menopause as i have plenty of other symptoms.

No real advice but I'm 48 and had something similar a year ago, always had very regular periods but one month last year I skipped a period, had cramps felt premenstrual but nothing happened, the following month I had a period from hell , extremely heavy bleeding. I kinda assumed it might be linked to my age possibly peri menopausal ? but never really looked into it, it hasn't happened again thou I'm booked in tomorrow for uterine abalation to hopefully solve heavy prolonged periods.
Good luck with your operation op!

@phillipa12 glad I'm not alone. What other symptoms are you experiencing?

@runnerduck34 thank you. Been on the waiting list since April. I actually have my pre op tomorrow and since I have been asked to provide a urine sample, no doubt they will do a pregnancy test tomorrow.

Oh the thought...😩

Just test to make sure, it isn't impossible that your husband's tubes have knitted themselves back together. Otherwise menopause fits those symptoms, have you had any other menopause signs?

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 31/10/2019 19:55

I’m guessing it’s because you could be peri menopausal, I think it because your body is not producing enough Estrogen to actually bleed but you get all the associated other symptoms, it’s very frustrating because I always find when my period starts the other symptoms would stop but during peri it’s just permanent PMS without any relief.

Increased urination, insomnia, stiff joints esp legs, and im generally short, snappy and irritable! 😟. Have not had anything confirmed with drs yet as im only just 44 and symptoms are not causing any major problems but altogether they are annoying. My mum went through menopause in her mid 40s and my id twin was confirmed peri menopausal 18 months ago.

Been tested today at my pre op and im definately not pregnant. Thank the lord.
