First period after childbirth

My baby is 7weeks old and I have not yet had my period. Not worried about it but today after visiting the bathroom I have awful pelvic pain and cramping.

What was your first period like? When did you get it? Did you have more discomfort than your normal before your first period arrived?

My periods before having our baby were heavy and painful but normally short. Assuming this pain is body gearing up for the first one for nearly a year. My IBS has been fairly emotional since having the baby too but this is most uncomfortable I have been since the initial physical recovery period directly after giving birth.

I think it depends on whether you are nursing or not. My first period didn’t return until babies started solids.

Personally my periods were a lot less painful and shorter after having my first child. Thankfully resolving years of period hell. I think though that is not always the case.
