Cervical Screening. Smear results are taking 10 weeks!

Today I had to go to an outpatient gynae appointment for some scans. While I was there the doctor asked me if I wanted to get a smear test done,I said yes please as I had an appointment in 2 weeks time for one anyway.
She told me I'd get the results back in 10 weeks. I queried this as it sounded a very long time to wait and she said that the numbers of NHS labs that carry out the analysis had been cut from 52 down to just 9 for the whole UK.
Is it me or is that shocking?

Wow that really is shocking. 10 weeks is a long time. I had my smear back in April and I had results within 2 weeks. I am in the North West.
There is another thread on here and women have been waiting 14 weeks for results. It's unacceptable.

As the doctor said to me. If men had to have them it wouldn't be a 10 week wait.
Suspect she's on MN !
