Sore breasts and dr found a lump

I went to the doctors yesterday as I have had really painful breasts for a couple of weeks (pregnancy tests negative plus I'm on contraception).

The doctor has found a lump in one of them and was reassuring saying it's most likely a duct but has referred me to the breast clinic anyway as better to be safe. has anyone got any experience with lumps and going to breast clinics? I'm so anxious about it and obviously my brain goes straight to the worst case scenario.

Thanks in advance xx

Hi. I found a lump in march. Panicked and got referred to the breast unit on a 2 week wait. They gave me a mammogram, which due to dense breast tissue was useless, so gave me an ultrasound which can detect whether it is a fluid filled cyst, which they drain there and then, or something solid.

Mine was solid so they took a core biopsy and I had to wait 2 weeks for a result. A month of sheer panic. The stress was unbearable.

Thankfully , like most lumps, mine was a benign fibroadenoma. I had it removed last week as it kept fluctuating in size. Very small op.

I know its easier said than done but try not to panic. Most lumps are benign and fairly common I have since found out.

I was referred to the breast clinic a month ago as had horrible pain in my left breast, GP couldn't find any lumps but referred for peace of mind anyway, had mammogram and ultrasound, the ultrasound picked up a cyst and a solid lump, I literally felt like the world fell out my arse however they reassured me there and then that it looked like a Fibroadenoma, they took a biopsy and like the above poster after an agonising two week wait that diagnosis was confirmed, as it is so small no further treatment was required.

It's a great, fast service and you will get a really good idea on the day of what you are dealing with.

Honestly the waiting is shite, I was living in a bubble, catastrophising wildly! They will give you some idea on the day though. Hope all goes OK!
