Does this sound like BV? Calling sufferers!

Excessive discharge (randomly) but no odour. Canestan self test shows blue so ph definitely up the spout. BUT this happened a few months ago and was accompanied by itching - I took an over the counter BV treatment and the discharge subsided but itching didn’t. Went to doctor who said no infection but vaginal dryness due to breastfeeding. I am 9 months post partum, still no period. If you’ve suffered from BV does it present like this (occasional excess discharge but no other symptoms)? And does it tend to come back once treated ie once a sufferer always a sufferer?

I ask because I’m trying to decide whether to take an over the counter BV treatment or just go straight back to the docs in case something else is going on.

I dont think so. Bv normally has a really powerful u cant miss it smell. If it is itchless, not a yucky colour (green or dark yellow but is creamish/whitish) and doesn't have an odour then I would say it's just normal vaginal discharge. I sometimes get more mid cycle or just before my period. I am not fimilar with the home test u did? Does that mean its bv? I would do nothing and see if it settles or other symptoms develop (in which case treat for bv).

Thanks @Halo1234 that's really helpful. The test shows increased ph which it says "may mean you have a BV infection". I did initially think maybe it's more hormonal issues but the discharge was excessive enough that I had to wear a pad AND then the test was blue. But bar the excess discharge none of the symptoms listed for BV or trichomoniasis apply. So I'm at a loss!

When I had BV I only noticed the smell when I had sex. If I didn’t have sex, there was no smell so smell isn’t always a definitive symptom.
Could be that your coming on your period.
Could be that you ate something and its causing a difference in fluids.

If it is BV though, the best and only treatment I found that worked was Boric acid suppositories inserted into my vag every night for a week.

GhostVagina · 06/10/2019 18:50

Ah well I'm definitely not having sex at the moment. Maybe I should have BV detection sex. But I'd rather go to the doctor and get the boric inserts. It's a bit of a mystery!

My doctor didn’t give me the boric acid. They gave me antibiotics and it worked for a week after finishing the course and then it came back.

I then bought boric acid capsules from amazon and that worked and kept the BV away and I haven’t had it since.

Did you get the BV diagnosed? Or was it just obvious?

As a sufferer of it I think you would know you had BV given the 'whiff'

GhostVagina · 06/10/2019 20:38

@nixso29 that is really useful because there's definitely no whiff. And the discharge (so far) was one crazy episode really, it seems to have tailed off now. But the canestan test says raised ph so 🤷‍♀️

I didn’t know I had BV until I had sex (I’m single and had a wild night with my FWB) and realised a smell afterwards...i realised it was BV as I had it once before and so I researched and got the boric acid
