Bleeding after smear test

hittheroadjack1 · 26/09/2019 00:07

Had a smear test this morning and I was bleeding. The woman doing the smear said she could see blood on my cervix before she had even taken the swab.

Has anyone bled after a smear test before? This is the first time it has happened to me.

Were you not already starting to bleed if she could see blood on the cervix?

Are you due on ?

I've bled every time I've had one but have never been told they could see blood before the swab. Are you definitely mid cycle?

Her0utdoors · 26/09/2019 06:06

Only ever after my last one (I'm in my 40s so have had many). I was the first one done by the practice nurse and not at a GUM clinic or specialist GP so I put it down to her poor technique as it was also the only I've ever had that hurt.

Smears make me bleed pretty much every time without fail, it's fairly horrible. Also, sometimes the blood cells can stop them having enough cervical cells to check. Fingers crossed this isn't the case for you!!!

I don't have periods so not sure why there was blood on my cervix.

This was the first smear that was uncomfortable for me.

I always bleed after a smear test.

I always bleed quite a bit after a smear test, I had treatment for cervical erosion a couple of years ago and I presume I still might some. It is never painful but the amount of blood is always a shock as I don’t have periods either so not used to it

How long did your spotting last after your smear? I’m 5 days past and tiny weeny dots occasionally of brown discharge still. Is that ok?
