Recurring thrush

Hi everyone,

I have been struggling with thrush since Feb 2018 shortly after losing my virginity, after that, I had thrush from Feb - June 2018. I then went on a 6-month course of fluconazole and the thrush stayed away till June 2019. However, in June 2019 it returned really badly and took ages to clear up, then again this month July 2019 and again on September 2019, it has come back. I do everything advised - probiotics, cotton underwear, no soaps, etc. I even tried the candida diet with no luck. I am only 21 and feel like this is going to control my life, its already causing strain on my relationship and social life. I am DESPERATE! Also, I have been tested for diabetes, HIV etc, and I am pretty certain it is thrush rather than another condition as my boyfriend displays symptoms too before we both get treated. I have now been put on another 6 months course of fluconazole but the thrush has come back AGAIN (September) I really don't know what else I can do. Please help if you can.

Thank you

The problem I have is that I’ve had three swabs all come back satisfactory. I’ve also been tested for other things!! all I’m getting at the moment is the slightly yellow discharge!

@Hobbes2019 are you getting itching/soreness as well? There are many other things it could be and they might have just not tested for those things yet. I would push for them to refer you to a gynecologist or a skin specialist!

Oh no do u mean it could be worse than thrush?

Like bacterial vaginosis. After one particularly nasty bout of thrush which I thought didn't clear it turns out I then got BV. Its quite common apparently

I occasionally have problems and when i was referred to a specialist i was told it might be caused by irritation. I was advised to only use e45 shower cream on my bum (nothing on the front obvs) and that made a huge difference. Careful of what soap powders you use on pants - for me the cheapo ones are the best! Only ever cotton pants.

Canestan probiotics capsules for your vagina are the only thing that really help - help keep things balanced. They're bloody expensive though

@Hobbes2019 yeah it could be bacterial vaginosis or something like eczema even, there’s lots of different possibilities that could cause ur symptoms!
