Anyone stopped their periods through contraception?

Hi there

I’ve seen some articles on situations where women have for their own reasons stopped their periods through taking contraception. I think in some cases, women don’t break for their periods. This can mean that symptoms such as pms are avoided.

I’m curious to find out if anyone’s done this, what contraception you’ve used and what your experience has been, along with any side effects?

Cerazette mini pill stopped mine as did the mirena coil. I didn't use them for that reason but it was a bonus!

I'm on my 3rd mirena in a row, and never have periods. I do/did feel some hormonal cycling (in perimenopause now), but its great

Yes, me. I have horrendously painful periods and use the contraceptive pill so that I'm not completely floored for one week each month.

I take Yasmin and run my packs on only taking a break every five or six months. It avoids the need to experience the horrendous period pain I otherwise get as frequently.

I've been on the depo for 10 years, no periods, no PMS, no side effects as far as I can see. I now find the hassle of periods baffling unless you are ttc and I'll never voluntarily have a period again.

Wow, great to hear of your positive experiences. How did you know what contraception was right for you? I have hormonal acne, pms and have thinning hair so don’t want any adverse reactions to that.

I just had the depo and never had any issues, no angst involved. I guess you'll just have to try one and see.

Depo made me bleed and put on tons of weight

squee123 · 10/09/2019 19:57

Yasmin is great for hormonal acne. You might have a bit of trouble getting it prescribed as GPs try to avoid it as it's more expensive, but it is actually an acne treatment option in its own right

I take rigevidon. The combined pill. Upon talking to my doctor and other medical people, I now continue to take the pill. The bleed is a false chemical bleed so is unnecessary. I have been doing this for five years ish and have had two periods in that time. One by choice and one that was expected because your body may do this to flush any excess hormones (or something along those lines)

Cerazette mini pill haven’t had a period in about 5 years as they were horrendous.

trevthecat · 23/09/2019 23:06

I was on Cerrazette which stopped my periods completely but now have marina coil, just so I don't have to remember to take anything. I have maybe a half day of light bleeding in 3 month cycles. I do notice a monthly cycle though of moods etc but not as bad as before. My periods before were heavy, long, mood swings, I get overly clumsy. All has drastically reduced. I'll stay on this I think till menopause
