Doxcycline for bv?

EAIOU · 20/08/2019 21:34

Has anyone had success using doxcycline for bv? Been reading on forums and other bits on the internet and it was the first time I'd seen it mentioned.

I've had it even more regularly since birth of little one 8.5 months ago. (Around 6 years since first occurrence of it).

Long term I think I will go insane trying to keep this at bay.

Have tried prescribed antibiotics (Metronidazole) for it on several occasions, pessaries, no baths, no soap near down below, a million douches (I know it's bad but it gets so horrible), no underwear where possible and boxer type pants when out, no fragranced sanitary products, been with same partner for over 3 years etc etc

Have started looking at vitamins and probiotics. Any other suggestions would be great. Even if I could lessen the occurrence. I've gone from about twice a year to getting it twice a month now.

Sorry ypur are experiencing this I have also experienced this alot. I was advised to do a STI test to rule out anything else which may be causing it as it is common alongside infections.

You can order a free home kit on the umbrella website and free post it back I hope this helps xx

Thanks so much for replying. I've had several STD checks throughout the 6 years until I met DP.

Then i was screened again for STDs when I was pregnant! Its so frustrating as the swabs confirm BV but not the actual cause! (Dont even know if they can do that!)

Have you had much success in treating it or reducing its reoccurance?

I had a lot of success with taking Optibac Probiotics for women - 2x a day with each flare up cleared things much quicker. It’s horribke isn’t it? Mine was related to getting a coil I reckon.

Oh thay sounds hopeful @Tefiti2! Do you take them every day or when you start to feel symptomatic?

Awe agree absolutely that its bloody horrible!! I've tried all sorts and feel like theres not enough research done into it despite so many women having it occasionally or chronically!
