Anyone waiting for a hysterectomy or anyone recently had one?

Please come and chat here.

I'm waiting for a hysterectomy. Full. Taking the ovaries, cervix, uterus, the lot. I had my pre-op on Tuesday and she said I'm looking at around the end of October for the op. I had my bloods done, swabs and got given that Nutricia Pre-op drink to have the day before and morning of the op. Need to have bloods done again 3-4 days before and swabs 48hrs before.

For background I have endometriosis and adenomyosis. I had an ablation last September, excision of endo and tubes clamped. It lessened the blood loss but pain is still horrific from the adenomyosis.

I was 38 a week ago. I'll need to go on HRT for 10 years.

Anybody else waiting too?
Anyone who's recently had one and has any advice for those of us waiting?

Please come and chat about your experiences.

Hi GiggleMcDimples,

I can't offer much advice I'm afraid but I am also waiting for a total hysterectomy possibly in the New Year. I am also in my 30s. I have known I would need a hysterectomy for the last 10+ years following a borderline tumor on my ovary in my 20s. I have been having ultrasounds bloods etc but am repeatedly told this is not diagnostic & cannot guarantee everything really is clear. This has taken a massive toll mentally.
It sounds like you have also been through so much. How do you feel about the surgery? I'll be honest and say surgical menopause does terrify me. I will also have HRT.

There’s a thread about having a hysterectomy which might be helpful if you’ve not already seen it, lots of discussion and tips: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_health/3332246-Hysterectomy?pg=1&order=

@dirtyfabulous it sounds like you've had a rough time of it, I can't imagine the worry you must've gone through or are still going through. To be honest, I'll just be glad when it's all over with. I've got my two boys who are 14 and 11 and we wouldn't have chosen to have more anyway. And the thought of the menopause and HRT didn't really bother me as my mum any auntie both had the same as me and had hysterectomies at 35 and 36, and they've both been great since. However, I've been reading this week a lot about how women are struggling with a nationwide shortage of HRT, so that scares me somewhat. How are you feeling about it? Is it just the menopause that scares you?

@SpuriouserAndSpuriouser thank you for that link, I hadn't seen that thread. I'll definitely have a browse through that now.

Thanks for the link SpuriouserAndSpuriouser I have read that thread & found lots of useful information on there.

GiggleMcDimples it must be such a comfort having two close relatives go through this before you, to both discuss experiences and see how well they have both been since. That is actually very comforting for me to read so thank you for sharing that! I also have my ds's and no desire for more children. I completely relate when you say you will be glad when it's all over with! I feel the very same and think that our greatest fears lie in anticipation.
Yes, the HRT shortage is very concerning. I am not in the UK but am aware of it and can understand your worry.
It's menopause that I'm so concerned about. I'm worried I won't cope with the symptoms. My youngest ds is almost 4 so still very young. I hope to meet with my Dr in the next few weeks to schedule the surgery and find out exactly how long the wait is to start hrt, she mentioned 6 weeks post op at a recent appointment which seems like a long time!
It sounds like you have the ball rolling & a timeframe in place, which is my next goal!
