I am booked in with the doctor but not for a couple of weeks. I am nearly 50 but annual mammos due to family history. Been investigated several times for cysts in the breast in question and also had a lumpectomy to rule out cancer about 10 years ago. Anyone had something similar?

I would try to bring the GP appointment forward if possible.

Agree that you need to see the GP sooner. Can you ask for a GP to phone you or for a nurse practitioner appointment?? Did you tell the receptionist what the problem was? It is a red flag symptom for breast cancer. 💐

I had the same thing a few years back and it turned out to be DCIS, a non invasive cancer. It’s unlikely to be cancer, but I’d ask the GP to give you an urgent appointment, if only to set your mind at rest. I hope it’s good news for you

Thanks for the replies. The appointment is actually next week. Just checked on the online system. It’s the first day I can actually do due to being away over the weekend and a work thing I cannot move. Having done some research, it is less of a red flag for cancer than I first thought although agree it needs looking at as soon as poss. Thanks again for replies.

I had intermittent bleeding from my left nipple and had an operation to remove the milk ducts last month.
In my case it was papillomas which caused the problem and thankfully they were within the ducts and all ok. The consultant said that about 15% of such cases are cancerous.
I am not trying to scare you but I would try and get an earlier appointment.

I’ve heard of infections causing bleeding from the nipple. Good that your appointment is coming up soon.

Next week sounds fine. Have had a look on the NICE website and they are less concerned about bleeding in under 50s without other symptoms. I would want it looked at though.

Thanks @camrose - I thought papillomas seemed possible having had a read. I am realistic though so I know I will get referred on as possible cancer. Thanks also @Mum4MrA I am trying to tell myself that the lack of other symptoms is a good sign and that if it is bad news, the fact that I had a mammogram come back clear in January means that is hopefully being caught early. Thanks all - it is helping to talk about it and hear other theories.

I thought it would be useful to update this thread in case anyone comes across it with similar symptoms. I saw the GP who was not too concerned but due to my family history, did an urgent referral. It has since stopped bleeding. At the breast clinic, following mammogram and ultrasound and breast exam, they could not find anything sinister but want me to keep an eye and go back in a couple of months, before if it bleeds again. Thanks for all the help on this thread.
