Polypectomy without anaesthetic not hysteroscopy after all

So after having my consultation in May and being told I was being referred for an urgent Hysteroscopy to remove fibroids and polyp then fit a mirena (all of which I'd be awake for) I've ad an appointment letter through for my procedure and when I've checked it's for a polypectomy, again awake. They seem like slightly different procedures from googling but I have been told that I will be sent an information leaflet as there wasn't one in the original letter sent.
Does anyone have experience of this please?
Thanks!

Will they remove fibroids in addition to the polyps? And as they're uterine rather than cervical will that make it any worse?🙈

Anyone?

I had a hysteroscopy so they could have a nosy. While they were in there they found a polyp and removed it and did a couple of biopsies at the same time. All uterine.
Pretty sure its the same procedure but I haven't had fibroids.
My letter after the event said I had had a hysteroscopy and a polypectomy, all with no anaesthetic.

Honestly it was ok, painful and not fun, but ok.

I have also had both procedures at the same time without anaesthetic. It was fine, no more than mild discomfort for me., and years of breakthrough bleeding stopped within a week.

Thank you both for taking the time to reply. And with realistic but reassuring responses too. I'm really not looking forward to it but need this problem sorted now as I can't carry on like I have been.

I have had a hysteroscopy and one with myosure, last one 3 weeks ago under local and a Mirena insertion.
I had polyps and most of the fibroids removed.I needed some ibuprofen for the myosure, just one dose and have been fine.A bit bloated for the day but then fine.
I've also had one under GA and the locals were better.

I've had3, all without anaesthetic. It's no more uncomfortable than a smear, yes you feel it when they snip or scrape but it's literally one second, it would be just as painful if they injected local anaesthetic from the needle so there's no point. My hospital does offer gas or sedation if requested but the later means staying in hospital for 2 hours afterwards and being collected by someone, whereas I drive myself and was done by 8.30am and at work for 9 o'clock (when you make the appointment they ask if you would be going to work and would you like the 8am slot).
Obviously procedures vary but they are very experienced and as I'm prone to them I have got used to it every 2-3 years

Hi. I’m after some adice. I had a hysteroscopy just over two weeks ok & since Wednesday I’ve been bleeding mainly after wiping, I also had the marina coil fitted at the same time, I’m so worried, is this normal .

Shelly67 · 10/08/2019 08:12

Help, I’m new here & first time posting, it’s saying I have a reply to my comment but I can’t see it or what I need to do to find it, I’m sorry 😐

Thatsalargeagegap · 10/08/2019 08:40

Hi Shelly

The mirena can cause some bleeding so it could be that? I wouldn't worry...

Howaboutthisone · 10/08/2019 10:31

These are encouraging replies-thank you! I am having a mirena inserted at the same time and have been told that there might be some bleeding while it settles. I'm expecting some really as I'm currently on a much higher level of progesterone in the norethisterone that I'm taking three times a day so I'm expecting some while the hormone levels balance out. Really hope that I'm one of those who get on with the mirena!
Interesting that you've had to have it done several times. I hope it settles down for you.

I had the Mirena inserted too after my last hysteroscopy,it is 3 weeks for me and I still have blood when I wipe.I am relaxed about it because before these treatments I was bleeding heavily everyday.
I think it's normal and takes a while to settle.

Howaboutthisone · 12/08/2019 19:59

I think I'll feel the same. Before I was put on these meds while waiting for the procedure I was at the point where I couldn't leave the house comfortably. So if it's only when I wipe for a few weeks I'm hoping I'll cope ok with that. If I'm bleeding lots still though I'll feel rubbish!
