Smear test

Hello! I’ve just had my first smear test and was very worried about this (unnecessarily I know)! The nurse was very lovely and really put me at ease! She had a tiny bit of trouble seeing my cervix but did eventually get to it with a little bit of repositioning and also changing the size of The speculum. Anyway I saw the brush after she had collected the sample and I saw that there was blood on it. I didn’t ask any questions as she didn’t seem too phased but now I’m starting to worry that it’s not normal for this to happen?! Has anyone else had this? Thanks in advance!

I think that's perfectly normal as they scrape the cervix to get the sample.

Yes very normal - when I had mine she said I had bled a little bit and gave me a pad to put on, but actually there was hardly any blood.

I get this everytime. I have cervical ectropion where some cells of the inside of the cervix are on the surface. It doesnt cause any issues..just one of those things.

If it's a lot of blood they may not get a clear sample and have to repeat but I've never had to repeat.

Thanks so much for your replies you’ve put my mind at ease! We’re TTC at the moment with no luck as of yet so think I’m just a bit of an over worrier at the moment about all things vagina related haha! 🙈
