Period pains in the knee

When I get my period I get really bad pains in my knees. Is this normal? Does anyone else get it? I have the back pain and tummy ache but my knees are something else! I have taken ibuprofen all day and feel no better. What's it all about!

Yes I've had this, sometimes makes my leg numb. Wondered if it was endometriosis but not sure.

I get very painful legs. Once they even gave way and I just collapsed on the floor. Not sure if it’s normal but it hasn’t done me any major harm so far

I used to get it in my belly and all down my legs to my knees. Really fucking hurt.
The menopause was soooo welcome.

Do you mean restless legs, or something else? I've always had restless legs with my periods, as did my mum and so does my friend. My mum said something about it being quite common and a reason for it, which I can't remember.

I used to get pains in my thighs - the pain would travel down each thigh, a really horrible ache. You're not alone! Periods have strange effects on a lot of us as is evidenced by the replies on this thread.

Horrible though pains in the knees are, I hope you are now at least a bit reassured that you are 'normal'.

I definitely used to get period pain in my knees. I read it was a symptom of endometriosis so if it's causing you a lot of pain maybe see your GP?

I stopped getting it after I had a baby and my period pain reduced significantly overall

Thank you. I asked because I'm waiting for blood tests results back regarding rheumatoid arthritis ad wondered if it was because I have some joint problems anyway. I don't know what restless legs are - it's just pain down the legs and bag on knees like I could give way!

Restless legs www.nhs.uk/conditions/restless-legs-syndrome/ for me it's similar but not so much that my legs will give way but more I can't stand up anymore and HAVE to sit down or if already sitting, I need to stretch or chop my legs off because they're driving me crazy with discomfort. It's more discomfort than pain though.

Spainintherain · 16/07/2019 22:17

Thank you! Don't think I have restless legs , just pain

I have endo and before having the mirena would get bad knee pain. The endo is affecting a nerve running down my leg so I get a really weird pain in my knee that I can't quite 'place' iyswim.

I also happen to have RA and though some people say they find it affected by their periods, I've never found it to be the case for me.
