Brown Period Blood

Hi guys , I have been having this issue for a while now and hoping someone out there can help me . So , since February my normal period mysteriously spotted, instead , i started getting blown blood every month , its thin blood , grainy at times , has clots here and there and even comes out as black sometimes ! i just don't know what to do , i keep reading everywhere that brown blood is a old blood at all that and that it usually happens at the beginning or end of a period but for me its constantly brown! i am trying to conceive my first child and no luck yet and I am almost 100% that this is causing our difficulty . i have been to the doctors and they are very dismissive since we have not been trying for a year yet ( we are going into our 4th month of TTC (trying to conceive)) i just feel helpless . Aslo the period only lasts 2 -3 days and it’s all drip draps , mostly when I wipe . other symptoms include mild hot flushes at night ,i have this weird one hair growing on my chin all of the sudden and a constant recurring spot on the back of my neck . Is it hormonal ? i am 26 so am praying its not some sort of early menopause :( , please share your thoughts

Placemarking - I’ve been having the exact same issue for a year or so now, doctors always dismiss me too :(

@evangeline I am so sorry you are going thorough this , it’s so horrible , I literally feel so alone , I am praying we get some more information on it xxx

I’ve also wondered about early menopause. I’ve had hot flushes, dizziness and confusion. What made you think it was menopause?

I literally could have written the first bit of your post myself. There must be someone who’s had a similar experience and got to the bottom of it...I hope

@Evangelinedream I think it's just a gut feeling , I had a amh test done few month ago and it came back on the low end of normal for my age , about 12.5 , everyone I say this to is saying I need to relax , that conceiving takes time ( which I know it can do ) and basically just saying I am imagining the worst , but I know my body and something is not right , my periods used to be regular red and 5 days with normal flow .so am just gonna try and see if I can get to the bottom of it , and if I am going through premature menopause I want to see what my options are for having a family because I want one more than anything 😢

I do think if there is a consistent change doctors should be taking you seriously. Have you told them you’re trying? I made the mistake of telling my doctor that I had changed my mind about wanting a family and she seemed to take that as meaning we didn’t need to investigate further.

I’m sorry this is happening to you...hopefully you have lots of support. Keep pushing for an answer, don’t give up!

Thank you @Evangelinedream , it's so lovely speaking to someone, yeah I did mention to them that I am trying and I feel like they immediately viewed me as an impatient naive girl who thinks pregnancy happens at a drop of a hat . I could just tell ! she was like you need to relaxxxx ugh . But I've taken your advice and demanded further investigation so they are in the process of referring me to the hospital to have a pelvic scan , hopefully this will be a step to getting answers xxx

Have you started any medication or supplements?

cranstonmanor · 03/07/2019 23:27

Did you use hormonal contraception before you started TTC? I've had friends whose periods took a while to get back to normal.

I used to have the implant, when I quit (because I hated it) it took 1.5 years before my period was normal again.

babywishes0102 · 04/07/2019 16:16

Hi @QuestionableMouse @cranstonmanor I was using contraception like a yeah ago and after I stopped it my periods resumed as normal until this February , strangely enough , I remember the December and January periods were so perfect , 28 days and as red as ever ! So honestly it just seems like it's come from no where ! And I haven't started using any supplements or anything

Hi , I know this is an old thread, but did any of you ever get an answer to why this was happening ?

cookiesandcream22 · 30/10/2022 19:19

Hey OP,

My period was exactly the same as yours...I thought it was normal!
Had ds 8 years ago and then after 9m had copper IUD put in. Decided to start ttc no.2 June 2021 and had it removed. #

My period has always been on time...like CLOCKWORK every 4 weeks. But it was dark brown, stinky and sludgy and only lasted 1-2 days.

Finally spoke to GP after a year (they weren't interested until IUD was out for a year and even then because I already had a child they didn't care) and realised period wasn't supposed to be like this and after running bloods etc they said I may have PCOS - awaiting scan to confirm this!

Then suddenly Sept 2022 my period was a week later than normal (5 weeks instead of 4 - I fully thought I was pregnant despite cramping :( but it came out BRIGHT RED and lasted 3 days! Oct 2022 period has been the same. So although I'm gutted to not be pregnant at least my period has somehow gone back to normal, 1 year and 3 months after having IUD removed!

TTC has been difficult but I think my cycle is slowly regulating so I'm hoping it's only a matter of time.

Did you get any answers for your situation?
