My periods have stopped im on the pill. I am early 50's. I asked my doctor do i need to still take the pill daily. I was told to go for a blood test to see if i had started the menopause. If i had i dont need to take the pill anymore she said.

I am not keen on needles do i have to have this test. Surely i would know if i had started the menopause wouldnt I. I forgot to ask her that.

There are lots of factors to having gone through the menopause and while stopping your periods is likely to be one indicator that you are starting to go through the process, as someone whose periods starting to go wonky in my early 40s as a result of peri-menopause and who didn't complete menopause until I was 60, continued use of contraception was advised.

On the basis of being safe rather than sorry, I'd be inclined to continue taking contraception or have the blood test - but ultimately it's your body & so your choice.
