Delaying period (on the pill)

I have been on the pill for many years, I usually take 2 packs in a row and never had a problem. I am now starting my 3rd pack in a row, as something came up for this weekend, which is when I should be getting my period. Anyway my question is, do I have to take all 21 pills from the 3rd pack, or can I take just one week and then stop for 7 days to get my period?

Thanks

You should ideally consult with your pharmacist. However I used to take 3 months of pill back-to-back for many years to reduce the number of periods I had: albeit under the direction of the GP due to really bad periods.
