Painful nipple

In the last half an hour I’ve just suddenly felt a pain in my left nipple all the way through (If that makes sense) the area around it is clearly red. Shape still the same and no lumps that I can see/feel. It looks like I had a bit of red discharge/ blood too but can’t be sure. I’m mid 30s no problems previously. I have breastfed though over 8 years ago and it seems similar to mastitis. Is this possible despite not breastfeeding right now? What else could it be? I am due on my period so could it be hormone related? Sorry for asking here I know I will be told to get checked asap but my doctors surgery are closed and there isn’t an out of hours around here. Should I be worried?

I’m no expert but it doesn’t sound like anything extreme. Could it maybe be a bug bite? A few weeks ago I had a really itchy nipple that was painful too, it went after a day. I think sometimes bodies are just weird.
Can you get to the doctors tomorrow if you are still worried?

You can definitely get mastitis at any time, whether you're feeding or not - worth a trip to the GP?

Thanks for replying so quick it’s a relief to hear it may not be serious. The only thing that’s gone through my mind is ‘bra chaffing’ if that’s a thing Blush it’s been a hot day and I have a physical job so maybe caused an irritation? I also have a pulled muscle feeling near my shoulder not sure if it’s related ( ie overdone it at work or bumped without realising)
