Itchy downstairs!!

In the last couple of weeks I have developed itchy vulva to the point where I could cry. It’s worse in the morning and at night - and it’s only really when I go for a wee. It’s right at the front so not near where I pee and I dab rather than wipe. It’s becoming a real issue. At first I thought it was thrush so treated it as such but then there was no change. At the moment I’m putting vagisil on as some sort of relief.

I have no idea what could have caused this - my husband and I have sex fairly frequently but not loads as I’m usually passed out asleep by half ten! He’s not said he’s suffered with any issues either.

I’m calling the doctor tomorrow but know an appointment will be an even bigger pain in the ass(!) so just wondered if anyone had any suggestions?

It’s not any other part of me - it’s the front bit only!

Could you try some canestan just in case it is something fungal?

When you say you treated for thrush, what exactly did you do?

How old are you? Vulval itching can be part of peri menopause.

I’m 36 lol.

I used the pessary and the cream - canesten.

I’ll have another pop at that - it’s been better today weirdly but good lord it can drive me utterly insane!

Have you changed your washing detergent? I can only use non-bio as biological makes me itch like crazy. I also have to be careful with shower gel and bubble bath.

Maybe buy the combo test from a supermarket that tests for thrush and BV. It's not cheap but you'll know either way.

If it's thrush, your bloke will need to treat himself or hell just pass it back. Even if he has no symptoms.

It could be washing detergent now I think - I have used some I haven’t used before. I didn’t think that at all as I never seem to have allergic reactions to anything.

Will rewash all my pants in something else!!

I don’t feel like I should bother gp with something like this as it’s not all the time.

I had this and it turned out to be a mild eczema from where I get waxed regularly

If you've changed your laundry detergent then give everything an extra rinse and go back to the old stuff. Do a maintenance wash on your machine with some old towels.

It's just not worth changing unless they change something in it.

Take an antihistamine every day to help with the itching. The nurse at your practice should be able to take a look for you if you can't get to see the GP quickly.

Could it be genital psoriasis?

I have had the same problem...driving me mad but last few days have seen improvement...used tea tree oil...

OP I have lichen sclerosus. It was misdiagnosed as thrush and then eczema for around 18 months. I hope you have had a reaction to washing detergent as it's not pleasant! Basically I had itching on vulva and opening to vagina where I literally could rip
Of the skin and would wake me at night and I could cry! It's going to take me some time but I will hopefully get it under control. All I would say is - if it's persistent keep going to the gp or get a referral to gynae. I hope you feel better soon as I know how awful it can be! X

The thing is I always change washing detergent as I buy whatever is on offer. However I’ve just looked and it’s Bold that I’ve bought which I recall I did react to when I was younger. It gave me terrible rashes on my thighs I remember now.

I’ll change all that and see - save the bold for the husband.

Vagisil is my saviour right now - it feels so much better!!

Is it bold 3 in 1? If so its probably the fabric conditioner element. We're allergic and I know several others with the same issue. Wash trousers and tights if you wear them not just pants.

If it's not that have you changed anything else you use on that area? Loo roll, shower gel...?

Dd and I have loads of allergies and j plain don't change anything unless forced to!

Yes to whoever suggested antihistamine. I had a raging itch on a different part of my body for months and antihistimine along with prescribed steroids got it under control while they worked out cause (an underlying fungal thing that need oral anti fungals). Actually steroids are bad for fungal infections but it def got the skin back under control

I’ll get some this morning if I can. I’ll also try and ring the doctors but that’s roulette! I’d also rather go in than discuss on the phone lol.

My dd had this and it was eczema. Hope it gets better soon.

I’ve bought another canesten pessary so we’ll see. Will try other avenues if that doesn’t work!
