Hysteroscopy - how should I feel afterwards?

Had hysteroscopy yesterday, done as OP procedure so no anaesthetic etc. to get over. Biopsies taken.
Felt ok until Mirena coil put in, had cramping pain then. All chat by nurses and doctor about "what are you doing with rest of day, going shopping or anything nice?"
Said was just going home. So expectation I would be quite fine.

Had cup of tea in hospital coffee shop, cramps full on, got quite faint at one point but didn't actually pass out. Went home about hour post procedure, Ibuprofen taken, cramps like period so just got hot water bottle and went to bed. Slight bright red bleeding.

Still some bleeding, cramps still there, more ibuprofen taken. Don't feel great but no symptoms of infection like temp, shivers - just kind of weepy and sore. Is this normal? I certainly don't feel like shopping!

NHS advice

I’m having one done in a couple of weeks, had an appointment with a dr this week.

I had one a few years ago. I certainly didn't feel like shopping either! What you've described seems right in my experience. Hope you feel better soon! Thanks

Hi OP - I had one a couple of weeks back - I actually went for a carvery on the way back 😳 that probably says more about me than the procedure - however I did bleed and cramp mildly for about a week after - probably bled a bit longer but I am on blood thinners. I think your coil might be making you feel worse - I'm having one but I'm being knocked out as having fibroids removed at the same time. But yes I would say totally normal - did they give you the leaflet? I don't know where I've put it but it definitely says bleeding and cramps for a few days.

I'd see how you go over the weekend but obvs go to GP if you're worried or think you're infected.

What us women go through hey xx

Having a mirena put in definitely males you feel like huddling down I n bed with the duvet over your head for a few days. Id just relax and take it a bit easy if you can

OP: I'm 2 days ahead of you.
That evening and night: cramps, felt light-headed, shaky and weird.
Next day: Mild cramps, felt a bit sore/tender.
Following day: Slight discomfort but otherwise fine.
Today: spent the day walking around Kew Gardens. Smile

Now I'm just trying to keep busy to take my mind off the wait for results.

Thanks for replies - cramps woke me in night, felt tired today and deffo needed ibuprofen to keep cramps at bay. Glad I wasn't at work, certainly.
No sign of infection Greyhound thankfully, really just like bad period pain and heat definitely helps.
Glam, LMW, thanks for comments. Mirena rather last min but as I was there it made sense just to have it put in but didn't have much time to review side effects.
OHN hope you continue to improve- good luck with the results💐🤞🏻
Lizziestwin hope it goes well. Think you should expect to feel a bit sore and tired afterwards.

I felt the same as you after mine. I certainly couldn't have managed a shopping trip. I had quite a bit of cramping & light bleeding & it did take a while for the Mirena to settle down. Best thing ever once it did, though.

Thank you for the warning. I’m having one done in 2 ½ weeks and hadn’t really taken on board how I might feel. DH will be away but I’ll have lots of late teens early twenties in the house. I’ll tell them they have to dog walk.
