Bleeding between periods and after sex

Hi!

Looking for some advice/experience... for the past 2.5 years I have had bleeding between periods and sometimes after sex. I've attended all my smear tests since aged 20 and all results came back fine, my last smear test was around 2018 I think! My gp tried me with a few different contraceptive pills but the irregular bleeding continued. I'm currently on the waiting list to see the gynaecologist but Iv already been waiting for a year and the last time I phoned to check where I was on the list I still had around 14 weeks waiting time.

This is really starting to get me down. I feel physically and mentally tired all the time. I know I shouldn't but after a particularly bad mid cycle bleed I start googling my symptoms and cervical cancer seems glaringly obvious. I find myself getting angry amd frustrated that I have had to wait and am still waiting for a diagnosis... of anything?! Campaigns constantly tell us early detection is key and see your gp straight away if you have any abnormal bleeding/symptoms! I did! 2.5 years ago!!

Sorry for the long post, not sure what I'm hoping to hear in any replies maybe just some reassurance of some kind? I'm planning on phoning my gp tomorrow as this mid cycle bleeding is lasting longer than the usual 3 days and is quite a bit heavier than usual. I don't want to seem rude but is there anyway I can request to be seen earlier by the gynaecologist?

Thanks for reading! X

You need to go to the GP and ask to be referred for a pelvic ultrasound so they can check structurally what’s going on, if. I thing obvious they should refer you to the Gynae dept at your hospital.

*if nothing obvious that should have said... autocorrect Blush

Hi, I’d go back and push for a referral for scan like pp said. I think it can be caused by other things like polyps, hormone changes and even stress.

I had it for months and was terrified as had had cin3 and treatment. Had scans etc which were all clear. I was going through a very stressful time in general but once that calmed down and I started looking after myself a bit more (more sleep, exercise and better nutrition) it stopped so I think stress definitely plays a part
