Pain after coil

Just wondering if anyone has any advice.

I had a copper coil fitted about 8 weeks ago. Ever since I've been suffering from occasional pains in my abdomen. Not severe but kind of like a bad period cramp. Usually on the left side. Should I be concerned? I have an appointment for it checking, but not until next Thursday.

I can't find any literature online about after pains online so don't know if it's normal!

Anyone at all?

I think it's normal. I had a hormonal coil fitted 3 weeks ago and I've had lots of period style cramping and spotting.

From what I remember from last time it took a while to settle down.

I had a Mirena fitted 6 wks ago, had a lot of pain for the first couple of days, spotting for the first 3 weeks, now all settled down.

If you are still having pain at 8 weeks, have you seen your GP? Did you have the 6 week coil check?

I hope you are feeling better soon.

I didn't have the 6 week check as I couldn't get an appointment Hmm I had one booked for last week but then I was on my period so had to postpone. So next week it is! Just the last couple of days I've had quite a bit of pain so I'm getting more worried.

Has anyone else had this?

I had a copper coil fitted around the same time - end of March. I've also had similar pain, I was fine for the first month (except for the heaviest period known to woman) but just over the last few days I've been experiencing pain in the left side of my abdomen as well, in the ovary kind of area. I've got an appointment on Monday as I've also being experiencing bloody egg white discharge, so I'll bring this up too.

Oh moscovv good to know I'm not alone! That's exactly the pattern I've had. Can you pop back on Monday and let me know what they say? Thanks!

Yes me too whoami Have you had the discharge too? (sorry, v personal I know!) that's what's been worrying me most.

moscovv · 08/05/2019 18:45

and yes I will do!

whoami24601 · 09/05/2019 02:01

I have had some discharge but didn't think much of it as I do generally get quite a bit anyway Blush maybe it's all linked!

I had pain like this on the coil - it turned out to be interfering with a fibroid I have in my uterus. They picked that up with an ultrasound scan.

whoami24601 · 09/05/2019 15:12

Oh I hope it's nothing serious libbylove! Did you have to have the coil out?

OP posts:
libbylove · 09/05/2019 15:22

Yes, I had in in, then out, then in, then out, then in, then out again! It's been a right palaver.

moscovv · 13/05/2019 15:18

whoami24601 just to let you know, I saw the GP about this today and she was very reassuring and said that it's nothing to worry about, for me at least, as I was ovulating at the time and the copper coil can irritate the uterus during ovulation in the same way that it can do during periods - the blood for me during ovulation was for the same reason the coil gives me heavy periods. Hope this helps
