Anyone had a laparoscopy?

Arghhh I've been waiting so long for a much-needed laparoscopy. They have finally sent a date through and

  1. it's my husbands nan's funeral that day and
  2. I have a HUGEly important work meeting the next day.

But if I put off the operation, I could be waiting another 4/5 weeks and have to endure another excruciating period in the meantime.

Does anyone know if I will be able to go to a meeting the next day? Or am I likely to be too sore? What is the pain level like? (I realise this is different for everyone). I do have a pretty low pain threshold.

HELP! What should I do?!

Confused

When I had mine the pain was OK with the help of some ibuprofen and paracetomol. What is the work meeting? You will probably have been told to stay off work for a few days or so though.

I very much doubt you’ll be up and about the next day. I was shuffling around the house for over a week before I left like even going out. I’d had an ovarian cyst removed though, not sure what you’re procedure is for? But it’ll be a general anaesthetic anyway so you’ll probably be a bit groggy for a day or two. It was a good three weeks before I felt back to normal.

Is the work meeting essential?

Even if you do feel well, standard advice would be that after a GA alone you must have a sensible adult with you for 24hrs, should not drive for 48hrs...possibly longer for surgical reasons depending on the operation they end up doing (insurance would likely be invalidated if you did) and should not be signing important documents/making big decisions.

Thanks all. Have decided to turn down op for sake of kids (didn't want to risk not being there for them overnight while DH away).

Lap rebooked for 10/06 but another period is heading my way before then SadSadSad
