Abnormal smear result

Just looking for some reassurance!

My smear test results came back today sound abnormal cells were found in my sample. They are only low grade but I also tested positive for the HPV virus.

I'm having to go to the hospital for a Colposcopy which is fine but do they treat the virus or should
it just go away by itself? I'm sure I heard somewhere it depends what strain it is.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I wasn't treated for the virus, they just took the cells away and no problems since. This was about 7years ahi now though so perhaps they couldn't treat the virus!

I tested positive for HPV a few years ago and had CIN3. I had lletz treatment on the cells this also got rid of the Hpv virus and I was clear of it in my next smear.
My understanding is though that the HPV virus can just go away by itself... as it also lays dormant in your system for a while which is why it appears at random
