Smear tomorrow and I am dreading it, been putting off for so long. I've never had one. Any advice I.e what to wear? How long it takes? So nervous

Well done on gettting it done. I am often told the test might not work as I bleed when they take the cells, but it has always come back fine. I had treatment for ectropion last month, but they often leave it if you have no symptoms like spotting after sex or between periods. It is quite common especially if you are on hormonal contraception.

Well done! You should be bloody proud!

Macaroonmayhem · 01/04/2019 12:39

Well done!

Totally proud of you OP! I've never had a smear but had a pelvic ultrasound the other day, where they shove a probe in your vagina. I was dreading that but it was fine! I need to be a grown up and book my first smear. I think the worst thing for me is the thought of the embarrassment with it being a small rural practice where everyone knows everyone. I'd feel much more comfortable going to the hospital and having a randomer that I know I'll never meet again.

Furryslipper, it's a bit like that for me, small town and I occasionally see the practice nurse wal

I live in a small community too. The community is made up of human beings. Every one of them
has a body, with all the same bits as everyone else of the same sex. That woman getting money out at the
post office counter has had a prolapse. That old man carrying home a pint of milk has had a rectal exam of his prostate gland. That practice nurse has a smear test herself every couple of years.

Has anybody suffered symptoms of PTSD after these examinations? I had an internal transvaginal ultrasound which was very traumatic. I found it very difficult to have sex with mr husband without having flash backs to the examination. I have just had my first smear this Saturday and again I feel anxious about the next time we have sex. Has anybody experienced this?

Well done for booking your smear Smile
Iv had a good few smears done and honestly it's nothing to be nervous about, shouldn't hurt and it's over in minutes.. I sometimes have a little cramping afterwards for a day.
