Breast pain - I’m worried

Hello

I started having breast pain about 3 weeks ago on one side of my left breast. I had to take paracetamol for it. There is no lumps, breasts look normal. I went to the GP the other day and she said there is thickening of tissue and nodules? She isreferring me for a mammogram.

I’m 48 and have been on HRT for about 3 years. I have had breast pain before, but it wasn’t every day and not like it was now and I was told I had a cyst in my left breast but they didn’t do anything about it and I was fine with that (that was about 2 years ago). I wasn’t worried about being sent for the mammogram then, but I’m worried now and I don’t know why.

When the pain first started, I just took pain killers every couple of days. The pain is more of a dull ache, but it makes me feel a bit sick IYSWIM. Now I’m finding I’m taking pain killers every day, but I have to admit, the paracetamol does take the pain away. I’m now being woken up with pain especially if I’m lying on my right had side, as my breast is sore with the way I lies when I’m in bed. I am naturally very big (HH in bra size).

Since I’ve been to the doctors, I’ve been worried it’s keeping me away at night. My husband knows I’m getting this pain, but I haven’t told him how worried I am, and I get quite teary. I hope I’m worrying for nothing.

I don’t know how long I will wait for an appointment for a mammogram but the doctor said it doesn’t need to be an emergency? So that’s a good thing isn’t it?

Has anyone else experienced this?
