Mirena coil removal

I had the Mirena put in on 10th January 2019. My gp originally tried to insert it mid December 2018 but couldn't get it in so I had it done by hysteroscopy in hospital. The reason i had Mirena was to help with heavy bleeding and constant low iron levels. Following insertion I had cramping and then a few days later the worst period I have ever had for about 10 days. Flooding and bad bad pain. After this I developed Bacterial Vaginosis! Week after this I got a UTI I am 41 and never had one before. Gp assured me neither the BV or UTI were caused by the coil. After 2 weeks of Antibiotics I developed extreme pain in my left pelvic area which has lasted 3 weeks, I was sent for a scan to see if I had an ovarian cyst but they couldn't even see my left ovary so I was told that was a good sign. I have been in constant pain which has also gone into my left thigh and left lower back. I made an appointment for today to have the Mirena removed which was really quick and didn't hurt at all. Within an hour of having it removed the pain in my pelvic area has reduced to almost nothing. It just annoys me that all the health professionals I have seen in the last 9 weeks kept assuring me it wasn't the coil and I felt like they thought I was making it up. I have been in constant pain for weeks! I also struggled to lose weight on it. I didn't really gain but I have been eating a low carb diet and weight loss was nowhere near what it should have been. Anyone else have a similar experience with the pelvic pain?

I'm resisting having the coil inserted for exactly this reason. I've heard such awful stories. Glad you've had it removed now OP.

Just had my third put in and had no issues with pain or weight.

They made me try it twice. They agreed to remove it the first time. But when my endometriosis pain got unbearable again they would not try anything else to help unless i had the coil again. They said it couldn't have made the pain worse.

It got to the point I couldn't put one leg down without agony. And they just kept refusing to take it out. So I took it out myself. The pain was instant after insertion both times. Never let up and didn't help with bleeding and my emotions were all over. I was in even more pain with it in but they wouldn't believe me.

You are lucky they agreed to remove it.

Like you it went almost instantly when out.

I've never had any issues with weight gain/loss. I'm on my second Mirena now. Never had any issues at all

I had one after DS1 and had no problems, had it removed, had DS2 and had another put in. It was a nightmare, I was constantly getting BV and thrush, I was very dry and like you I had discomfort in my pelvis. As soon as I got rid of the coil I was fine. I'd never have it again. Made my DH have a vasectomy instead, lol!

I've had mine for a month. getting it taken out in an hour- can you see that I'm counting the minutes?
It's been a nightmare. I have bled everyday for the whole month without a break and it's getting heavier to the stage where i have been prescribed drugs to stem the bleeding. I feel weepy and am covered in spots.

Oh I hope you get some relief when you have it out today big buttons. I have no pain at all in my pelvis today so it was definitely the coil! Never again! I have period pains now and some bleeding but I can deal with that, also had an aching back today from middle if back to lower back but I think this is just my body adjusting again. Let me know how you get on

Thank youSmile
My pre coil periods were always light and short. Even with the pills to stem the bleeding I am bleeding dark red.
God, I can’t have much more to bleed out!
It’s like this coil is scratching at an open wound or something Sad
