When did your periods return post natal?

I gave birth to my daughter 12 weeks ago. She was born 10 weeks early and had a very traumatic time.

Because she was in NICU I never fully established breast feeding so I never had a big supply of milk.

Since she's been home I mainly formula feed, but around 3 times a day I breast feed whatever I have. I do this more for bonding and comfort than for actual nutrition.

My periods haven't come back yet. I know breast feeding can delay them, but I'm not sure I'm breast feeding enough to cause my periods to have not returned.

How long did other people's take to return?

I hope your DD is doing better Flowers

I have three DC and breastfed all of them. My periods took varying lengths of time to return, but it was always when I went down to two feeds a day.

In the same haven't had a period yet and I've been spotting everyday and after intercourse

Ebf
18 months with 1st
12 months with 2nd

18 months with DS1 and 3 years with DS2 - both breastfed but obviously less so after six months when solids introduced, basically around the time or slighty before giving up bf - enjoy it whilst you can!

are you on any kind of contraception or planning to be?

Nala8 · 06/03/2019 23:05

I breastfed for 6 weeks then went on to formula and my period came 3 months after birth

DramaAlpaca · 06/03/2019 23:09

Four months, and I was ebf. Very annoying.

There have been lots of threads on this over the years, and the conclusion is always that every woman is different and it varies very widely. Anything from about 6 weeks post partum to when the woman completely stops bf, which can be well over two years.

MillicentMartha · 06/03/2019 23:13

Yes, three pregnancies, bf for 14 to 15 months, periods came back at 9 months, 6 months and around 11 months. No rhyme nor reason.

So relieved to find this thread! My partner was convinced there was something wrong with me, it's been 5 months and no periods. I didn't have regular periods before baby but this is unusual even for me.
Combo feeding

I ovulate about a week after I stop BF completely and then period around 11 days after that X

I had my first proper period about 5 weeks or so after giving birth. I exclusively formula fed. From the 6 week check I was back on the combined pill, so had withdrawal bleeding instead of actual periods.
