HPV at smear test

I was going to name change for this but can’t be bothered.

My recent smear came back as HPV positive. I’ve got to go for a colposcopy. I was of the understanding that HPV is passed on during sexual contact. I’ve only ever had sex with my husband and he’s only ever slept with me. How can I have got HPV in this incidence? Could it have been passed on through oral sex etc or does it mean he’s been unfaithful?

I’m going mad here thinking the worst Confused

It is possible to catch HPV from oral sex, yes. But it is also possible that your DH could have been unfaithful. Have you spoken to him about it?

It is passed on through sex but it can be skin to skin contact (fingers ) as well as PIV. It can also like dormant I believe for years .

He may have had it for years if he'd had intimate contact before you met- or maybe you could have too?

We’ve been together since we were 17 and 18 (32 and 33 now). He’s had no prior experience whatsoever whereas I had one boyfriend before but that never went further than a bit of manual stimulation (not oral sex or full sex).

I haven’t asked him about it. Worried about the answer to be honest
