I'm so annoyed with myself and my GP surgery!!

I've just realised the last smear I had was SIX years ago!!! I remember being sent a letter when I was pregnant with my youngest child, so I had it a few months after he was born. He was 6 at Christmas and I've not been contacted since. My surgery is notoriously shit and I keep meaning to move us to another one. They're closed over the weekend so I'll call them on Monday and get myself booked in but I'm livid they've dropped the ball and I've not realised until now that it's so overdue I've essentially skipped one and am due another.

It's your responsibility to keep up to date if you think it's that important. You're at least 50% to blame here. You didn't honestly "forget" did you?

Boobiliboobiliboo · 23/02/2019 11:09

Is it your surgery’a responsibility? My reminders come from a central NHS department.

AllGoodDogs · 23/02/2019 11:09

Yes I did. 3 years is a long time, it's not like I can write it on the calendar.

I accept some blame, as I said in my post (twice) I'm annoyed at myself too.

My previous letters have come direct from my surgery.

Write it on the back of your calendar the date of your next one and when you get annew calendar in dec do the same.

iklboo · 23/02/2019 11:13

I think mine come from the health authority but you've reminded me to check with my surgery.

BuggerFlip · 23/02/2019 12:20

Mine is due next month and I had a letter first from my surgery followed up with a letter from the NHS a couple of weeks later. You should check why you didn't get the NHS letter.

It's probably a mixture. Your surgery should have received a Prior Notification List with your name on so a number of things could have gone wrong - you weren't on it, they removed you from it in error, etc. It's worth following up to find out what's gone wrong.

I would also set an electronic reminder to follow up - on your phone or via your email if you don't have an electronic calendar.
