Periods all over the place

I'm looking for some advice, my periods have always been very regular the only time I ever missed a period I was pregnant. I've had 4 children and my youngest is 4. I am 39 years old. The last year my periods have been ranging from 6 weekly to 3 weekly. Occasionally I have odd spotting in between my periods. Every 2-3 months I have chronic diarrhea from the day my period arrives and lasts 2-3 days. I am also experiencing PMT for the first time in my life! The rage and anger over the silliest of things is making me a major bitch. I have no patience with my DH or my children in the week leading up to my period. My GP isn't interested and just says it's my age and the fact I don't use hormonal contraceptives. I went to a sexual health clinic and had myself checked for stds and I was clear.(thanks google)I still get ovulation pain around day 15 of my cycle every month. Is this the start of the menopause? Am I peri menopausal? Does anyone have any experience of this happening and what can I do?
