Minor changes to smear

Hi everyone.

6months ago I had my routine smear which came back minor changes and to have another in 6months time. Well I had that second smear Tuesday and I'm worried about the results. Iv been getting smears since I was 18 every 3years everyone single smear has always been normal until 6months ago.. is this normal? Could it be cancer? I'm such a worrier and worry about everything.
Iv Googled it and that scared me a lot.. I know I shouldn't have!

I don't bleed between my periods or after intercourse, I get pelvic pain tho.. and on my right side but iv had 2 ectopic which has left me with a damaged tube so it causes me pain.
Anyways does minor changes mean cancer? Should I be worried!

Thanks for reading

Was you hpv positive?

missnjp · 10/02/2019 20:03

Letter didn't say anything about hpv. Just said minor changes and get another smear in 6months time.

I wouldn't worry (easy to say as I'm a worrier too)! I'm sure they would have called you back before 6 months if they were concerned. I think the 6 months is to see if the levels maybe the same? I know some people have them every 6 months as there has been 'abnormalities' and that's just to check every 6 months and nothing something silly like every 3 or 5 years. I had a colposcopy done as I wasn't old enough for a smear test due to bleeding between periods if they thought something was wrong you'd be sent for colposcopy as that's the stage after an abnormal smear x

Thanks that's made me feel a little better although I'm still gonna worry like mad I just can't help it. Dreading the results from this smear, hope it's normal but got a feelings it's gonna say the same. So scared it's cancer down there.

I had this a couple of years ago too. All my previous smears were fine then one had minor changes and I had to go for another 3, each 6 months apart. Thankfully they all came back fine. One of the nurses told me that it's not uncommon to have minor changes and they just follow up keep an eye on it. Don't do what I did and keep putting them off though! Took me over 2 years to do the 3 follow ups and I could have saved myself a lot of worry if I just made the appointments on time! I hope all goes well for you.

I had this same thing back in 2012, it said 'minor changes' and I also had to repeat every 6 months for the next 3 smears. All were back to normal again so I hope that offers you some reassurance.
If it were cancer then I'm sure it would be more significant than 'minor changes' and they would have investigated further sooner.

I had borderline changes but no hpv on last test but was told I would not retest and back for testing in 3 years! I was concerned about this and wanted retesting but she assured me this was the norm.

Thank you it has made me feel so much better and has put my mind at ease a little.. your right if it were cancer then they wouldn't leave me 6months. So here's hoping it's nothing
