Low long are smear results taking at the moment?

Does anybody know how long the wait for results currently is? I get so anxious waiting, it's been 9 days so far. The nurse who did my test didn't know.

*How long, it should say in the title!

I had mine 2 weeks ago and she told me up to 4 weeks wait for results

Summerfalls · 06/02/2019 15:59

Had mine yesterday, nurse said 2-3 weeks for results.

ReaganSomerset · 06/02/2019 16:00

Currently at 12 days and still waiting. Any particular reason you're anxious?

blibblibs · 06/02/2019 16:03

It really depends on where you live and the type of test that will be carried out.

HeyMicky · 06/02/2019 16:04

I was told two weeks but they arrived 5 days later. It will totally depend on the area you live in

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 06/02/2019 16:08

My sister had hers in August, no results yet. Phoned the doctors yesterday to check if they were back, but no.

Wenttoseainasieve · 06/02/2019 16:09

No real reason I'm anxious, my last smear was inadequate so had to be redone, think it's just all the waiting.

I'm in a primary HPV testing area.

@AndNoneForGretchenWieners

I was told if they're not back after two months to chase with the hospital. I'd say the odds are they've lost your sister's sample.

ReaganSomerset · 06/02/2019 16:11

@Wenttoseainasieve Me too! Try and put it out of your mind, mine said I only need to chase after two months if I've not heard anything!

YouCanCallMeJodieWho · 06/02/2019 16:14

It depends where you live. Testing is done locally, not nationally.

Janecon · 06/02/2019 16:17

I had a smear in December and got my results within 2 weeks.

Wenttoseainasieve · 06/02/2019 16:18

I live in greater Manchester.

I remember there were massive delays last year all over the place, was wondering if that is still the case.

My results came back 2 days ago, around one and a half weeks after having my smear test. I have abnormal cells so need to go and have a colposcopy so now I'm waiting for that appointment letter to come through. I'm a bit anxious but trying not to think about it as there literally is nothing I can do about it.

ReaganSomerset · 06/02/2019 16:33

It's a pain, fairylights but most abnormal cells don't become cancer. I have a friend who had to have the colposcopy and she's just fine.

FredTed · 06/02/2019 16:37

I went last week and the nurse said it is taking up to 12 weeks around here at the moment.

FredTed · 06/02/2019 16:38

Just seen you are nowhere near me though!

DeadButDelicious · 06/02/2019 16:38

I had mine done yesterday, I was told 1-2 weeks. I'm up north. Quite near Manchester.

Skiphopnjump · 06/02/2019 16:45

This just reminded me that I haven't had my results back from my early December smear......

JaneyJimplin · 06/02/2019 16:47

So, in my area they used to take 3 weeks. My latest smear, a few months back, took 9 weeks! When I queried it, I was told there is a massive backlog due to cuts/funding.

SquigglySquaw · 06/02/2019 16:51

Mine took 2 weeks but I'm in Northamptonshire. I saw on the news that there's a backlog of thousands waiting to be done. Maybe hundreds of thousands, can't remember the exact figure.

tipsytrainee46 · 06/02/2019 16:52

I had mine at the beginning of November and my results were waiting on me getting back from holiday in mid January.

blibblibs · 06/02/2019 17:59

Since your in a primary hpv area OP you should have them back within the 2 week waiting time.
To the poster who hasn't had her results since August, that needs chasing up. I don't think there's a lab in the country that far behind. The lab can't speak to the patient but you should definitely ask the smear taker to chase it up.

HiHoToffee · 06/02/2019 18:10

Had mine mid November, got the results about 2 weeks later, nurse said it could take up to 4 -6 weeks (sw Surrey)

AlexGeorge · 07/02/2019 13:04

Had mine last June and waited 13 weeks for results as they are so low on people screeners. And I had borderline changes and still waited that long.
