Missed Smear Test Woe

Hi all,

I last had a smear test in 2013. I was at the doctors today seeing the nurse and mentioned it as was concerned it had been so long. She advised I had missed one in 2016 and would now have to wait until September for the next recall. Apparently it will get refused if they do one now?! I didn’t show and that’s that kind of thing.

Trouble is I know for a fact I’ve received absolutely nothing. No reminders, no second invites nothing. If I’d had a letter I would have booked in immediately. Still it wouldn’t be worn. I can’t help but feel a bit fobbed off. I let it drop reasoning I could go to the local GUM and get it done - only to find that the only one in the county I know of is now closed. I’m looking on various sites and it seems most clinic places do sexual health screening only - no smear.

I can’t help but thing if it’s overdue already- it’s dodgy leaving it any longer. Am I overthinking it by worrying that I’m being put in a possibly dangerous situation by this? It’s really got my goat. I’m thinking of calling back into GP in the morning and explaining to reception. What if they won’t do it though? Thanks

Speak to your GP, they can advise (although the testing centre won’t test a sample sent in without a recall on it, maybe they can alter the recall?).

Alternatively you can get one privately: Cherish in Sutton Coldfield do them, I know there are others but I don’t know the names. Maybe someone from Jo’ Trust can advise of your options if the GP won’t help.
