Mum is going through menopause

Hi, I don't have my own children but I do have a stepdaughter.... but joined here in the hope someone may be able to advise on something.

My mum is currently going through the menopause and her hot flushes are really bad. It's totally knocked her confidence and she is constantly crying because of it. She feels she smells and looks awful even though she is fine. I totally understand how she feels though because I'm on some medication that makes me excessively sweat and it's awful!

Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips on how to ease the hot flushes? Also, can anyone recommend a nice cooling spray I can get her? I was going to go for one in Boots but I want to get her a nice one that smells nice and just will give her that bit of luxury.

I live away from my Mum so it's heartbreaking to visit her and she is like this :(

Thanks everyone!

I know this might not be a helpful reply but the only thing that worked for me was HRT. Is that something she’s considered?

She could try accupuncture. It’s meant to be really good at the hormonal stuff

Your mum needs to read up on treatments and consider HRT. The website of this dr is good

www.menopausedoctor.co.uk and also www.menopausematters.co.uk

Basically, HRT is the only thing that is shown to be effective for severe flushes and symptoms. If she is in good health, there is probably no reason why she can't use it. You sound a lovely DD!

Thanks everyone. I've done some research into HRT for her and will go through it with her tomorrow. She's at work tonight (she's a nurse)!

My Mum is my Queen and it's been breaking my heart seeing her with such discomfort. Shocked me last night that she didn't want to go to the pub (which I was very excited for to see people) usually my Mum is the one dragging me out!

I've got her some basic cooling spray for now. Will keep a look out on a more luxurious one. I think ESPA do one!

I am not on HRT. I have had a lot of success with Menoforce sage tablets. They have eliminated mine. They don't work for everybody (my friend for instance). I was not expecting them to do anything so I have been pleasantly surprised and grateful.
