Asking for someone else for smear test

Smear test due this month. I am supposed to have it done at my GP with the practice nurse but I really don't want her to do it. I don't like her for a start, and she makes odd little comments about whether or not I'm wearing makeup or what I am wearing. Last time I went for a smear she kept saying 'ooooh what a shame', 'oh they're horrible aren't they' 'nobody likes them'. It made me really uncomfortable and I just wanted her to shut up and get on with it.

But.... I can't find anywhere else that offers them! What can I do? Can I request someone else do it?

I have no idea where you live but sexual health clinics do them so you don’t have to go to your GP practice

HopeAndJoy16 · 03/01/2019 23:34

I had mine done at the local sexual health clinic whilst having a mirena fitted, might be worth a look to see if they offer it.

But yes you could request someone else, they might only have the one practice nurse though.

I've looked into it and although they used to do them they said they don't offer the service anymore and I should go to the GP Sad

Surely there is more than one person qualified to do them at the practice? Just state at booking that you want a different nurse /a doctor to do it.

I get annual smears but my sexual health clinic doesn’t do them. Like the OP there is only 1 nurse at my GP’s surgery who does them.

If the one at yours is saying things that make you uncomfortable you should have a word with the practice manager. Just saying though, they all say that no one likes having them - stating the obvious, I know!

Bring in your phone and some ear phones. Tell her you will be listening to music all the while because that relaxes you.

twatbastard · 04/01/2019 14:15

Is there more than one nurse at your practice? I know one of the nurses at my surgery personally and would prefer not to have her do my smears and they have always given me appointments with other nurses no questions asked.

GreenMeerkat · 04/01/2019 14:42

Yes there is only one there unfortunately. Just have to suck it up and have her do it.

Do the music thing PP suggested then. At least then she won't prattle on.
