Suddenly started bleeding straight after sex?

Hi

I have started having a problem in that I am experiencing what feels like a full blown period after/during sex. I have never had this before and it is happening mid cycle. The bleeding is accompanied with period type cramps (I already suffer with very painful periods) and it is starting to get me down.

For context, I am 46 and have been with my husband for 25 years and we haven't really changed anything we do during sex that could trigger this.

Anyone else experienced this? Do I need to see my GP do you think?

Yes, please contact your gp tomorrow

Sorry, I don’t have any experience of this but always see your GP with unexpected bleeding mid cycle, or after sex. They may want to check your cervix etc.

I had similar but not as heavy as you’re describing - the doctor examined me and it was a minor cervical erosion - cells growing on the outside.
do get it checked as it can be a symptom of many different things.

Wowserme · 01/01/2019 22:58

It could be caused by numerous things, the majority of them nothing to be alarmed about... however it could be caused by something more sinister so for this reason you should definitely go and see the dr if only to put your mind at ease. X

Yes go to your GP! It could be a number of things, but best to see your GP who can refer to gynae dept.

I did have this once when i was a lot younger but only the once. I was referred to the gynaecologist and had some tests done but it all came back NAD.

I am 45 and been having the same problem - my smear was bought forward and although the hpv was negative, 3 cervical polyps were found (which I have just had removed).

I was also referred for a pelvic and vaginal ultrasound, and found to have multiple fibroids.

Both things can cause post coital bleeding, spotting between periods, and heavier periods.

Fibroids especially are common in pre menopausal women (something to do with falling hormone levels), with us both probably falling into that category!

Hope you can get things sorted x

I don't mind a bit of spotting between periods but this is full blown heavy bleeding and the cramping is awful! It is happening during sex as opposed to afterwards. Luckily I've been with my DH for so long, I feel comfortable with him about this but it's not exactly a pleasant experience!

I couldn't get through to the surgery today so will try again tomorrow.

If you have a cervical polyp, (one of mine was the size of a cherry tomato!!!), sudden onset bleeding could easily occur if you knock it during sex......can't explain the cramping though?

Fingers crossed it is something minor x
