Awful breast pain more than a week before period

Hi,

During my last two cycles, I have had the most awfully tender breasts. I’ve always had a bit of tenderness but this is like nothing I’ve experienced before, even when I was pregnant. I’m forever wincing if the kids accidentally catch me and even moving my arms hurts.

Has anyone had this suddenly occur? I’m pretty sure it’s related to my cycle as it has cleared for a week or two after my period.

I’m also experiencing much worse cramps and heavier periods. My cycle is also shorter - 28 days exactly, which I know isn’t abnormally short, but for me is different.

I’m just 40. I’m not on any hormonal contraception anymore, have been off about a year and half.

Anyone have any experience of this or any way to relieve the tender breasts? It’s making me so miserable; I can’t even comfortably hug my kids!

Thanks.

I forgot to say, I’m not actually due until 30th and I’ve already felt like this for a week or so.

Hi styg - I am no expert and am sure someone will be along in a bit but I wanted to say I understand and perhaps suggest this - I am 41 and for about a year my cycle has fluctuated and the associated breast tenderness has gotten steasily worse . I agree with the it's worse than pregnancy . I have eventually put it down to pwri- menopause . There might be other symptoms you are not aware of xx merry Christmas Xmas Wink

Curtains77 · 25/12/2018 22:01

Apologies I read that back and it sounds sarcastic ! Not intended xx hope someone more knowledgeable comes along in a bit ! Xx

RB68 · 25/12/2018 22:02

yes - mine ebbs and flows - its not consistent but tends to be just after ovulation but about 4 or 5 days afterwards my period appears. I know I have polycyctic ovaries so assumed it depended on whether I had an ovulation or not.

RandomMess · 25/12/2018 22:03

Always suffered and yes it got worse in my early forties AngryAngryAngry

2 weeks solid of excruciating agony became not uncommon for a year.

Peri bloody menopause

Stygimoloch · 25/12/2018 22:04

Merry Christmas curtains and thanks for the reply. It’s comforting to know it’s not just me but sorry you’ve suffered too!

I have wondered about peri-menopause but assumed we would be a bit young for that. Wishful thinking!

I had it. Really awful pain. After various tests I was told it was hormone related and I was hyper fertile. Be careful! Shock

MintyCedric · 25/12/2018 22:06

I'm 43 and have noticed over the last 12-18 months that I get breast tenderness (worse than it used to be and for a longer period of time) and other PMT symptoms more mid cycle/ovulation time.

Nothing else to indicate menopause/peri but suspect it probably is age related.

RandomMess · 25/12/2018 22:07

On a more positive note some cycles zero breast pain!!!

Very odd as my cycle for decades was week of very sore boobs, week of flooding, week off rinse and repeat...

Stygimoloch · 25/12/2018 22:07

Thanks everyone. I’m really interested to hear this. I asked my mom today but she couldn’t remember. It’s miserable, isn’t it? I was getting worried there was something wrong. It’s so very uncomfortable.

I think I've always been hyper fertile 4 DC 2 conceived using contraception 2 first time trying Confused no other pregnancies, ended up sterilised!

Curtains77 · 25/12/2018 22:09

No unfortunately it feels like we just stop having babies and then the menopause happens . Annoying !! I watched the mariella frostrup program on menopause and felt a bit better...but yes - i definitely feel too young!

TokyoSushi · 25/12/2018 22:11

38 here, really sore, even if I fold my arms, not due on for another 5 days, been going on about 3 months Sad

RandomMess · 25/12/2018 22:12

If I'm getting tearful I poke my boob and 99/100 they hurt and I know it's PMT Grin

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 25/12/2018 22:13

I could have written your post, I am constantly wincing every time DS barges into me or headbuts me, which is often! I'm glad it's not just me but also as o as orry others are suffering! I also have completely random cycles and occasionally have had 2 week cycles! I am not a ure a can deal with this for the next 10 years or do, I'm only 41!

Stygimoloch · 25/12/2018 22:17

I assumed that menopause worries were at least a decade away. I’ve only just finished having babies!

I’ve been suffering from this on and off for a couple of years. The most helpful things for me at cutting out or reducing caffeine, taking Vitamin B complex supplements and Evening Primrose Oil. Also, eat lots of green vegetables like broccoli to help balance estrogen levels naturally. Finally, have your thyroid checked.

RandomMess · 25/12/2018 22:20

Peri menopause can be more than a decade before the menopause starts. It's the reverse of puberty!

Puberty is probably around a decade? 8-18, your ovaries don't just start a couple of years before periods IYSWIM,

Your ovaries are probably chucking out multiple eggs per cycle noticing you to conceive twins at the very least.

45 year old SIL, first pregnancy (unplanned) triplets at 45 😱

Stygimoloch · 25/12/2018 22:23

I’ve just googled peri menopause. Heartburn too? Lower back ache? It’s like a tick list of my symptoms!

How do you think non ID twins happen????

Stygimoloch · 25/12/2018 22:28

Grin I’d never really thought about it! It does feel like this is what is happening. Everything is doubled!

Mine were agony for about 3 years at the start of my 40's. I'm small of boob but I would wear a sports bra in the house so they didn't move, I used to walk downstairs holding them in place 😫.

Stygimoloch · 25/12/2018 22:30

I’ve been wallimg downstairs very gingerly. Sports bra is a good shout. I can’t even contemplate going running when I feel like this.
