Hi all . . .

So i've had my mirena in for over 5 years now with no problems at all. . . .back in October I went to have it taken out by a nurse at a local sexual health clinic. . . she found the strings really quickly (or atleast that's what she said) and began to pull but it would not budge at all! She told me a Dr would need to have a go as they can use different instruments.

Went to my Dr - he couldn't find the strings at all so referred me to gynaecology but the appointment is not until January.

Ever since then I've been in constant pain in my pelvis. . . i ended up back at the Drs and they diagnosed me with PID and gave me antibiotics - this Dr suggested it could be coil related and to go to a&e if it got worse, it got worse so I ended up at a&e . . .they said they didn't think it had anything to do with the coil, checked my bloods and urine said i was fine and told me to go to a sexual health clinc as they are more specialised in coil removal. . . .I went to the sexual health clinic and they looked very hard and the strings are 100% not there! She did an internal examination and said the tenderness in my uterus suggests the coil could have shifted when the original nurse tried to get it out. I need to go to my GP and demand an emergency scan . . .rang GP they wont' see me until Friday.

Fast forward to today - i'm in constant period type pains which worsened after me and DH had some light fun this morning and are worse when Im sat down. . . I just feel like i'm not being listened to and I'm fed up of being in pain . . .it's beginning to affect my mental health now i'm anxious about it all and I feel bad on my husband for being a burden for being emotional.

I just don't know what to do next. . . I can't go on like this. . .

Oh I’m going to really exaggerate now! I feel bad as shouldn’t exploit/ be dishonest but it doesn’t feel reasonable waiting time at all. Plus had unprotected sex - have done pregnancy test today & is negative but would it show if fell pregnant in last few weeks & there’s an increased chance of ectopic pregnancy with the coil!

I had the exact same experience as Flip and it also ended up in the same place. The nurse perforated my uterus on insertion but no one believed me when I described how painful it was. Ten weeks of agony and constipation before they finally agreed to have a look then they had to remove under general. I’ve had terrible constipation ever since!

Oh that’s awful don’t Dontstepinthecowpat! I’ve heard so many stories about how they’ve become stuck, how was the removal? Was it a simple day procedure? Sorry about the lasting constipation, how miserable !

Bebe right up until I went down they insisted that it was in my cervix and they were putting me under GA for 15 mins to look with camera (vaginally) I had to consent to laparoscope just in case. Woke up 3 hours later to a very apologetic surgeon. It’s had a horrible impact as I had so many examinations and just the horrible feeling that something is wrong in your body and no one believes you. The constant draining pain as well with 3 young children at the time (4, 2 and 9 months) I wouldn’t wish the experience on my worst enemy

Update- went to clinic today to get an urgent referral notice & took to gp was told my receptionist will be two weeks wait. I’ll be following this up tomorrow with a phone call. Fingers crossed my experience is better than yours @Dontstepinthecowpat! Thank you for the helpful responses everyone xx

Two weeks sounds more reasonable
