PMS misery!!!

I am having awful PMS at the moment and can't understand why. I used to have a perfect 28 day cycle with one, maybe two days of feeling a bit blue/crampy before but now I start feeling rough - really rough - on day 14. I also seem to be accelerating through my cycle and the last two months have only been 21/22 days with a short, very heavy period.

I have had:

  • headaches
  • painful bloating - pre and during period
  • grumps/sadness
  • nausea

And the worst thing seems to be that if I have even ONE drink I wake up with the lost horrendous hangover, like I have been out all night on the tequila. I would sometimes have alcohol sensitivity around day 26 or so for one day only, but now it's going for 7-10 days.

I am 41 with three kids, the youngest being 21 months. I had endometriosis prior to kids but this seemed to have settled down. I also have autoimmune thyroid issues which I suppose could make me more sensitive to changes in hormones.

Can anyone shed any light? Or offer any suggestions? I take 1000mg of eve primrose oil a day but it doesn't seem to make much difference...

Apparently non haem iron is good for symptoms. I now take iron and vit c together routinely and it does help a little.
I also take some b6 and magnesium around my period and they do help. The biggest difference was the iron though. It improved symptoms after about a month of taking it 3x per week.
My GP also suggest the coil and antidepressants but I am sticking to the supplements as they are improving things for the time being.

I have exactly the same, all my life 28 days cycle, but for the last 3 years it could be anything from 23 to 34 days, horrible pms, mood swings, and waking up at 4am with heart palpitations. Nothing is helping and the doctors saying its part of getting older ☹ i am only 36 ! I only feel normal for about one week in the whole month!

Same with me Monday...there must be something that helps?!

I have been so many times to the doctors with it, i have given up now. I was prescribed amitriptyline to help with sleep and it does help a little bit but not always. Have just bought st John's wort to help with anxiety which is always really bad in the second part of my cycle so we will see. I am taking iron and multivitamins, exercise about 3-4 times a week too.
