I had a mirena put in in January to help with heavy periods. After the first few months of light bleeding and pain it helped and I had normal periods until the end of August.
I started bleeding heavily in August and after a number of investigations and lots of additional hormones I'm having an endometrial resection and a sterilisation next week. Gynaes have all said that the coil should stay in until the operation as it will be reducing my bleeding alongside my tablets.
Can mirena actually cause major bleeding? There seem to have been a lot of threads about mirena on here so thought someone might know. They've said it likely isn't working as a contraceptive as my womb is enlarged anyway.
