Experiences coming off depo

My 13 year old daughter was due her second depo jab on the 21st. The gp had wanted to give it to her two weeks earlier as she has a bleeding disorder that causes her to haemorrhage badly during her periods and bleed non stop. However we decided to stop the depo as she was having awful side effects. However, the side effects appear to be getting worse despite the depo finishing. She has had constant nausea, headaches, sore throat, anxiety and insomnia. She has a new symptom over the past two weeks of urinary frequency (but has no infection and blood sugars fine) Has anyone else had similar experiences with depo. Is there anything we can do to help ease the side effects? Or is it her hormones restarting and bleeding due again? GP wasn't helpful and still waiting on gynaecologist appointment. She's listed as semi urgent. Thank you all

I didn't even think it was recommended in that age group due to its effect on bone density. Depo made me bleed and put on a ton of weight. Hope she feels more normal soon Flowers

I didn't want her put on it. We were made to feel as though we had no choice as she was up to day 48 of bleeding and still experiencing massive amounts of flooding :( . I'm hoping the side effects will die down soon but don't appear to be :( thank you for your reply

My depo injection ran out around September 28th. On my second period since then and the first lasted 14 days and currently on day 14 of the second. Mostly has been spotting but the last 6 days have been heavier. Hoping she gets some relief soon - must be awful going through that & at such a young age!

I have to admit that for me the depo was like that, but by the 3rd injection it all went and was a brilliant option for me. However they had to bring it to 8/10 weekly otherwise I bled a lot, but it did help. I didn’t have any side effects coming off it and everything just went back to how it was before.

AFAIA you can have it when you are a teenager, but they may want to do a bone density scan. Having said that the “damage” caused by it should reverse after coming off it (a year I think I was told).
