Mirena Coil - anxiety/depression link??

I had the Mirena Coil put in about two weeks ago, and I'm experiencing really bad anxiety, depressive feelings, very little patience and anger which I've been struggling to control all of a sudden. I stopped taking the mini pill about 6 months ago and I felt so much happier and stable. I had hoped the little amount of hormone being released in the coil wouldn't affect me..

Has anyone else found they have suffered like this with the coil?
It's really getting me down and it's unfair on my partner and kids. I just feel like a complete mess.

I have heard that people can experience mood swings of anger, confusion and even depression. Your body and mind were returning to normal after an episode of pills. Your GP needs to know as soon as possible how the coil is making you feel and your behaviour towards your loved ones.

Have you spoken to your GP Mumma?

I had this! Had to have it taken out after 5 months. Murderous thoughts and anger

Loopytiles · 10/11/2018 20:12

IME it was v bad for my mental health.

It is likely to be the change in hormones.

I've been experiencing similar lately after going back onto the injection after being off contraception for over two years. It has settled down a bit, but that wasn't until after my second injection so it's been a good four months it's taken to reach this point where I feel a little better. I'm going to see how I feel when my next injection is due (nothing I can do right now!) and see how I feel then.

The problem is I only went back onto it because I was having problems caused my heavy periods. Now I've having problems caused my hormones. I can't win!!

Yes. You will be told that the hormones are localised and only affect the reproductive organs but the mirena was a nightmare for me and a few of my friends who also tried it

Growingboys · 10/11/2018 20:20

I haven't had this with the Mirena and I've had it for 18 months or so

JUst to add, it took about 6 weeks for the spotting to stop but since then it’s been wonderful. I’m on my second and woukdntvswap to another method.

Ridingthegravytrain - i was also told that no way could the mirena be causing my problems (weight gain, mood, low libido, anxiety, spotting, headaches ..), but I had it taken out in October after 14 months and I feel like a different person. Headaches have gone, spotting has gone, have lost about a stone in weight, starting to feel more like myself mental-health-wise as well.
