Been asked for a re-scan. So scared of ovarian cancer

My doctor referred me for a pelvic scan due to menstrual irregularities. At the ultrasound she said there was fluid on the pelvis and a bit of blood in one of my ovaries and she wants me to go for another scan in 6 weeks. She said she couldn't see anything sinister but do they just say that so you don't freak out?

I have just received a letter from doctors to make a routine appointment to discuss the first ultrasound. I'm now petrified it's ovarian cancer. My appointment with the doctor isn't until next week and I'm so scared.

Hi I've had a lot of scans this year due to same problems and on my ultra sound always got fluid on pelvis and they told me this can be normal and have cysts on the ovaries and recently found to have endometriosis so maybe worth finding out if it could be something like that .. hope this is slighty reassuring .. I've been terriefied of the same for the past 12 months until I got my diagnosis through laparoscopy x

I would try not to scare yourself and otherwise worry yourself unduly. You have already been advised that they could not see anything sinister on the scan, I would take them at their word.

A bit of blood in one of your ovaries may be an endometrioma which is otherwise called a "chocolate cyst". These are usually related to endometriosis rather than cancer. Another common cause of fluid on the pelvis is endometriosis. Endometriosis is usually diagnosed through a keyhole surgery op called a laparoscopy and at your next appointment I would be asking about this.

They tell you what they know, they don't give false reassurance.
