Large blood clot?

Looking for some reassurance because I'm a little bit scared. I'm on my period, day 3 and its been a pretty normal one. I was a day late, so not too unusual and about as heavy as I normally am. I'm never too heavy (I don't tend to leak through pads or have to change every hour etc).
I'm at my desk and stood up to pop the loo and felt a heavy feeling below and felt period blood come out onto the pad - again nothing unusual for me.
Went to the loo and on the pad was a large, dark, stringy, blood clot. I normally get clots on my period- normally no bigger than say a penny but this was much bigger, enough to freak me out. Do I need to see my GP or is it just one of those things that happens sometimes? I've been having periods for 22 years and not had a clot this big before. TIA

I once passed a massive clot and was but it never happened again so I put it down to being one of those things!
