How to delay my period for a few days?

Does anyone know if there is a 'proper' and safe way to delay periods for a couple of days or so?

I can feel myself ovulating (I always do), and without failing my period always arrives 2 weeks after feeling this. But in exactly two weeks I am going to an event on a farm, and from past experience I know the toilets are vile. Therefore, I REALLY don't want to be on my period or even use the loos at all if I can help it!

Is there a pill I can ask the doctor for, and how easy/hard is it to get hold of something like this (if it exists?)

You want norethisterone. The GP can prescribe it.

There's a tablet I've used a couple of times called norethisterone I think. You start taking around 3 days before period due I think. You can buy from online pharmacies too.

I asked my GP for this before. She warned me, the period that follows after taking the medicine can be very heavy. In a split second, I changed my mind and thought it wouldn't be worth it.

outnumbered77 · 14/10/2018 19:17

I've used it a few times and never had any issues.

You can order it from boots/Superdrug. You fill out a questionnaire and then get it delivered or collect in store.

I've used norethisterone from my gp before, worked perfectly and my period started 3 days after the last tablet, had an extremely painful period not particularly heavy but I passed a big chunk of lining which after googling is called a decidual cast 😖

Google is your friend, my friend, Norethistherone has been a stalwart for this for years.

Tronkmanton · 14/10/2018 19:32

I’ve used Norethisterone a few times, never had a problem with it. I was surprised what a simple solution it is to situations like yours OP. I took it the first time before a water sports holiday that would have been a complete nightmare otherwise!

Hopskipjumping · 14/10/2018 19:35

I took it on holiday. Caused extreme mood swings and migraine. Never again. The pill causes migraine for me too however.

LemonMousse · 14/10/2018 19:46

My girls have both used Norethisterone to delay periods for holidays (aged 18 & 20) no adverse effects reported.

florriepeck · 16/10/2018 16:10

I used norethisterone a few months ago, when my period was due during a planned holiday.
Had no problems at all, and it brought peace of mind.
Didn't see my GP: I used Boots online Period Delay Clinic, and just collected it from my local pharmacy.
