Had one earlier this week -WORST PAIN EVER! Screamed through the process and eventually had to tell the consultant to stop. Also had the coil placed in at the same time. Has anyone else been through this and how long did it take to recover? Still getting pains Sad (not severe but very uncomfortable) I don’t help myself by not thinking what I am doing then doing a stupid move and then feeling the pain ...

You need to see your GP to check you have not got an infection from the process or your coil has moved. This amount of pain is not normal. I went home by public transport after mine and felt ok- no pain during the actual procedure.

Go to the GP this pain is not normal, I had an endometrial biopsy and didn’t feel a thing, also mirena fitted and drove home after you should not be in this amount of pain.

I've had 5 endometrial biopsies over the last 3 years, and it was the worst pain I've ever known!!

I'm 59, and about 4 years ago started having the heaviest periods, lasting for weeks at a time. The doctor referred me to hospital, where scans, internal and external were don, and these biopsies. I've never known pain like it.

i called gp surgery and explained to the receptionist what my symptoms are and managed to get an emergency appointment with gp. Was told that the thread of the coil is in place - so no issues with that (?!) and was prescribed 500mg/125mg of co-amoxiclav just in case there was an infection lurking. Been told to come back if I suffer from a fever.
Lynncat - how long did it take you to recover? The pain from the biopsy was so awful I screamed and screamed during the procedure and begged the consultant to stop .. when I think back to it I feel upset that it was such a horrific ordeal, even if it was for a few minutes. I could feel the pain radiating to my abdomen and the nurses and consultant telling me ‘don’t worry this is nofmal’ Been told there may not be enough tissue sample after all of that ...

Your cervix must have been closed and tight. Have you ever had children? Or are near menopause? They ought to have stopped and given you a local anaesthetic.

Amani · 13/10/2018 15:40

Yes have had two children and not menopausal. Still painful today so off my feet Sad .... wish this would go away ...

Have you taken some pain killers? If you get a temp you need A&E in case you have an infection/

Amani · 13/10/2018 15:52

Been prescribed naproxen - which I have 500mg - feel no different after taking it. Fortunately no fever ... I just didn’t know I would be feeling this awful 5 days after ... Sad

I had one of these, I was 26 at the time and had had no children at that time. He struggled to open my cervix and when they did the biopsy I nearly hit the ceiling. They can send you into shock doing this without anaesthetic. The only thing that touched the after pain was codeine and a hot water bottle. I didn’t have an infection or anything abnormal, I think it’s just more painful for certain women. Having said that labour was a dream compared to the pain of that biopsy!!!

Lynne1Cat · 13/10/2018 15:57

Amani.... like you, I've had 2 births (I'm 59 now). The pain was dreadful and took a few days to go.

Amani · 13/10/2018 15:57

Redrose - how long did it take u to recover from it after?

I had the following day off work, went back 2 days but had to be careful. I think I had it done on a Wednesday and was ok by Saturday/Sunday?

Amani · 13/10/2018 16:01

Had mine on Monday and still suffering ... I wasn’t so bad Tuesday and Wednesday but flared up Thursday lunchtime...
