Abnormal smear result

I've had a letter today to say I have an abnormal smear result. They're sending me an appointment for a colposcopy. Rang drs and receptionist said it's also shown up that I have HPV but apparently this isn't the reason for the smear? I'm petrified I've got cancer or something. Does anyone have any similar experiences?

Hi,

I have also had a letter saying I have the HPV virus but no abnormal cells and that want me to go back in a year. I didn’t even get a colposcopy offered, I’m going to ring the GP tomorrow!

Me I have had a colposcopy which did show up cells on the verge of turning. A quick biopsy and removal of said cells got rid of the problem What they do is similar to a smear but they dye your cervix and shine a special light on it to show up any cells that are abnormal. They take a sample and if it can be solved there they take the abnormal portion away. Please do not worry they have caught it early and do not put off going. Ask lots of questions when you get there they do not mind.

Had a letter yesterday saying the same that I have a low degree abnormal cells and HPV and I am invited to have a colposcopy. From last night I was reading and trying to understand what is it.... But I became so down in my mood and anxious, I don’t know what to do...

OP have you had the colposcopy results yet? What did they say?

Hi, I've got my colposcopy this afternoon. Having talked to loads of people it seems this is quite common but worrying nonetheless. I'm just hoping it'll be ok. The one thing that is worrying me is that I've got the hpv that comes with genital warts 😬

I've just had a similar letter - HPV positive, low-grade changes to cells and a colcoscopy next month. Hope yours went OK yesterday, op.
