Period pains so bad i can't pee

Has anyone experienced this?

I usually experience average/moderate period pains and cramping when I have my period. I have a copper coil for contraception (although I'm single and haven't had sex in a while) which has been in place for 2.5 years. I'm not on the pill or any hormonal medication. My periods are regular and routine. This month though I experienced ovulation pains, which I've only experienced 2 or 3 times in my life before and now I am having the MOST painful period I've ever had.

I always get a little constipated for the 24hrs immediately before I start my period but once it starts that is usually relieved. (I've looked that up before and it's totally normal). but this time if i try to poo even for a split second the pain is breathtaking and even 'squeezing' to pee takes the pain up a few notches to being unbearable.

What can I do? and is there something wrong? I've taken paracetamol and ibuprofen and I have a hot water bottle. I'm at work and it's taking all my strength not to cry. I can't go home because I can't afford the time off.

That really doesn't sound normal OP. I once had similar symptoms with unexpected bleeding after no bleeding for months and months on depo - I went to the GP and they gave me something to stop the bleeding (can't remember what) and it also calmed the pain a little. You should do a sample for a urine infection as well probably. I know mine was unexpected whereas you've been having regular periods, but I did feel the same. Haven't ever found out what it was but the doctors didn't seem too worried (though they were the right level of kind and concerned).

I’m so sorry you’re in pain, it sounds awful. You need to pop to the GP and let them check you out.

Not sure if you could get mefanamic acid through pharmacist rather than go to GP but I've found that very good for severe period pain, works very quickly. It's the same family as ibuprofen though so you can't take them together.

I have had this for the past few months. Shocking pain! I was prescribed mefenamic acid and it worked. Well, it tamed them down to "normal" period pains. I am having an ultrasound to see if there's an obvious cause (possibly fibroids) too. Hope you get some pain relief.

If you just pitch up at the GP this evening and ask for an emergency appointment, they'll generally stick you on the end of a massive queue for the duty doctor and you'll get seen eventually.

Period pain so severe is not something you should just put up with

Keep trying on the docs and I’d suggest a more in depth look at your health overall if there isn’t anything physical showing from your doc check up

Although we all try and ignore these things, diet, exercise, sleep, stress all have a massive impact on our menstrual cycles

Thank you everyone. I was sure it wasn't 'normal' but you know when sometimes you wonder if perhaps you're overreacting and that maybe this is what everyone else has all the time and you've just been lucky.

I have a telephone call back from the doctors coming this afternoon so they'll consult over the phone and then I can either pick up a prescription this evening or go for a face to face appointment if they deem it necessary. thanks again.
